The 19th IPHS conference aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the history of urban planning and design focused on the theme of the resilient urban environment explored from the perspectives of both transformation and stability of urban structure.
Urban planning policy determines the strategy, goals and objectives of the urban development of territories. In the last decade, we have seen a gradual transition from construction in new territories to reconstruction, redevelopment, and an increase in the efficiency of already built-up sites. In this regard, development does not always mean increasing the volume (Urban development), but rather it also means the preservation (Sustainable development) and adaptation (Urban resilience) of the urban fabric. Such a change in focus of attention is supported by urban planning history and theory and applied research.
Focus of attention
The 2022 conference calls for contributions investigating a broad range of topics relating to the theme of City Space Transformation: Resilient Urban Environments. Papers should address the theme in historical and, as relevant, other perspectives. They may cover topics including urban form, urban visions, comprehensive planning, planning legacy and heritage, cross-cultural exchange and colonization, and the concept and methodology of global/world planning history.
